Leaving behind the preconceived notions associated with contemporary music composition, this lecture reveals that musical creation is not reduced to a cerebral, “learned” act, immaterial and detached from society. On the contrary: by recounting the paths taken to bring several of his recent works to fruition, Benjamin Dupé describes his creative process as an ongoing adventure, nourished by human encounters, grappling with matter and the economy, structured by a philosophical sense, motivated by a political gesture. A taste for risk and vertigo, when it is necessary to accept permanently not knowing yet, when it is necessary to work on technique and dream, rationality and instinct, poetry and triviality of contingencies.
